Artist Statement

To be open is to enter a state of acceptance, vulnerability, and inhibition where people are able to behave without judgment or discrimination. My work explores innocent sexuality and how people interact when the unconscious slips into a playful reality. Moving into a state of innocent exploration where desire and emotion flow freely into the conscious, like a child discovering attraction, allows for an experience outside of normative behavior. The intersection of play and sexuality creates an opportunity to defy behavior constraints associated with certain identities of gender, race, and class which repress the expression of intimate emotions and desires towards others.
